Bibliography of useful books about the AotC and the Civil War
The 6 books in red are basic. Add my "Politics" and "Practitioner" articles, and you're set, .

1. Robert Anderson:

2. William T. Sherman: 3.  Don Carlos Buell: 4. William S. Rosecrans: 5. George H. Thomas: 6. Ulysses S. Grant: 7. Battles: 8. General: 9. Recent books to read carefully (i.e. with at least a couple of grains of salt):
"Grant" by Brooks Simpson - tendentious, occasionally inaccurate, follows in  the worn footsteps of the hack Badeau.
"Like Men of War" by Noah Andre Trudeau - hastily written, bases treatment of Nashville on discredited source (Horn).
"Grant" novel by Max Byrd - slanted behind a pretense of impartiality. The author puts a defense of Grant's performance
at Cold Harbor in the mouth of a one-armed survivor of the slaughter. Sick.
